Why a grief ritual? We all experience pain in life –conflict, illnesses, disappointed dreams, broken relationships, loved ones who die or suffer… It is important to have ways to release that pain and to regularly cleanse ourselves. Otherwise, old pain begins to smother our creativity, our joy, our ability to connect with others. It impacts our health, and can even kill us.

What happens? In this transformational workshop, we will learn alternative ways to explore grief as a natural part of everyday life. Sobonfu will share how the ritual space of releasing grief following the traditional model of the Dagara can benefit people in a profound way, participants are invited to listen, feel, move, share, and potentially release grief.

Who benefit? Anyone who has lost a loved one, a job, a dream or pet; people feeling grief for the earth, people in transition, people in unhealthy relationships; therapists, educators, businesspeople, retirees, veterans, survivors, anyone exploring their lives or who have experienced loss.

Sobonfu Somé is a respected author, lecturer and activist. One of the foremost voices in African spirituality, Sobonfu travels the world on a healing mission, sharing the rich spiritual life and culture of her native land Burkina Faso, West Africa. She is the author of The Spirit of Intimacy, Welcoming Spirit Home, Falling Out of Grace and the CD set Women’s Wisdom from the Heart of Africa.
