| West African Author and Dagara Ritualist, Sobonfu Somé, returns to Laguna Beach onMay 30 and 31, 2014 to perform one of her tradition’s fundamental rites – the Grief Ritual.”It is always challenging to bring the spiritual into the material world, but it is one of the only ways we can put people back in touch with the earth and their inner values.” Sobonfu Some’Dagara rituals attune the mind, body and soul to receive the spirituality that is around us. With regular use of ritual, we find our way back to wholeness, peace and acceptance of self and others.
Sobonfu will lead an Evening lecture not only on the role of Ritual in the Dagara culture and tradition, but also on the nature of grief, and how it can effect our lives, from pathology to physical illness, if we do not release it properly. The Grief Ritual is a soul-cleansing and soul-restoring workshop, designed to provide a supportive, safe space to release our individual and collective grief – grief about the losses we have endured in this and other lifetimes, including, but not limited to: the loss of loved ones, the loss of a relationship, the loss of dreams, of identity, and the loss of connection with our Ancestors, Mother Earth, and Spirit.
Sobonfu, author of The Spirit of Intimacy, Welcoming Spirit Home, and Falling Out of Grace, lectures, teaches, and leads rituals throughout North America, Asia and Europe. She is considered the foremost voice on African Spirituality. |
